Welcome
Unplug. Unwind. Explore.
Nestled in the heart of nature on New Zealand’s southernmost island, Greenvale Bed and Breakfast offers a peaceful escape from the everyday. Whether you're here to hike the Rakiura Track, spot a wild kiwi, or simply breathe in the crisp sea air, our home is your home.
Wake to the sound of birdsong, sip your morning coffee with a view of the native bush or ocean, and enjoy breakfasts made with local ingredients.
Your hosts
Helen and Mike Darling have always loved Rakiura Stewart Island and have had a dream, for over 20 years, to own a property on the Island. When Greenvale came up for sale they jumped at the opportunity to showcase the Island and to provide guests with warm kiwi hospitality.
Helen has had a career that has spanned health, education, governance, forensic science and food systems, founding and leading international companies. Mike, a retired Detective, has co-founded a forensic science private company, set up and run orchards and worked as a horticultural consultant. Together they have spent many hours volunteering in conservation and governance efforts.
Alongside Helen and Mike are their son and daughter-in-law, Mathew and Glenda (who’s wedding on the island was capped with an incredible display of the aurora), who have a deep understanding of the natural environment and have also done extensive guiding and conservation work.
We aim to make your stay so fabulous that you won’t want to leave.
